Barzona Bulletin
Adaptable • Sustainable • Profitable
A Publication of the Barzona Breeders Association of America
President’s Message
By Matthew Heinz, Golden Hz Farms, BBAA President
W elcome to the fall edition of the Barzona Bulletin . Last month, some Barzona Breeders Associ ation of America (BBAA) members traveled to Meadview, Ariz., for the BBAA Annual Meeting to discuss this wonderful breed of cattle, enjoy the town of Mead view and view cattle on Nash and Maddie Stansfield’s ranch. I would like to thank Nash for his generosity and knowledge to help us understand the environmental and human hurdles they face running cattle against the Grand Canyon. While in Meadview, the BBAA conducted our annual busi ness meeting with a few topics of discussion. One of the items was having goals or landmarks for the Barzona Breeders Association for five, 10 and 20 years from now. After discuss ing some of the ideas during our meeting, I gave each of the members homework to keep brainstorming ideas and share
them with Alecia or me so we can compile a list to send to all members for further input. I personally believe we are well on our way to having the landmarks this association needs to continue moving forward. I would ask anyone in our readership to do the same. You all are past members, current members or people who just like to keep up on this great breed of cattle. Let us know your thoughts and goals. Any input is welcome! Last, thank you to all in the BBAA who were able to attend this year’s BBAA Annual Meeting. We are sorry to those who wanted to call in or tried to call in; our conference call feature did not have enough signal to work. I look forward to hearing from all of you over the next few months. Please stay safe in all you do. See everyone next year on the eastern side of the United States. Barzona: Adaptable, Sustainable, Profitable. BB

Right: Chesnee is reading a book called Maverick that Nash shared with everyone. It was popular
among the attendees.

From Our Association Secretary
By Alecia Heinz, Golden Hz Farms, BBAA Secretary
H appy fall, y’all! We have some big plans coming for the Barzona Breeders Association of America (BBAA), so stay tuned and, better yet, get involved! First and foremost, we have four pens reserved for the feed efficiency test in January 2024. We will have access to the feed tests for the next year, so if you want to participate through January 2025, please let us know! Vaccination require ments are listed on the website, and the more cattle we have tested, the lower the fees per head will be. Second, we are asking everyone to kick in ideas for five year, 10-year and 20-year goals for the BBAA. Some submitted goals include making the feed test free to members, increasing memberships by 50 to 100 percent, increasing registration numbers by those amounts, and building up our capital. Email, message, text or call me to add your visions to our list! Action has already been taken on building the capital fund. Members voted this year to have each producing herd send in one cull cow’s value to the association; the goal is $1,000 per herd. This is going to be implemented for one year and revoted on at each annual meeting. This fund is intended to pay for feed efficiency testing, developing member benefits, associa tion promotion materials and more.
Golden Hz Farms Barzona: The breed for busy people These cows take care of themselves! If there is any information you need mailed to you, questions you have, cattle for sale, an ad for the website (members get this for free) or other needs, please reach out. I can be reached via email, phone, text and Facebook Messenger, so use whatever method suits you best! Follow us on Facebook; I am planning on making some cool and fun reels to share! BB
