Barzona Bulletin

Adaptable • Sustainable • Profitable

A Publication of the Barzona Breeders Association of America

By Matthew Heinz, Golden Hz Farms, BBAA President President’s Message

W elcome to this edition of the Barzona Bulletin . Late summer is upon us as well as the Barzona Breeders Association of America (BBAA) Annual Meeting in Meadview, Ariz. Cattle markets are high, and some areas have finally broken out of the drought that held them hos tage last year. I am excited to see and hear from every member who at tends the meeting either in person or by phone. I also want to thank Nash and Maddie for opening their ranch up to us for fel lowship and to share our ideas for the future of Barzona cattle. We have many areas in the industry that we can contribute to as a breed, and I would like to set our goals to influence buyers to restock their herds with Barzona seedstock.

Our agenda for the BBAA Annual Meeting is being set as you read this, so any topics you would like to discuss, please reach out to our Executive Secretary Alecia to get it added prior to the business meeting. Action must be our No. 1 priority to ensure presented ideas are given a solid chance to work as intended. We should never be afraid of moving slowly, only fear standing still. As we discuss our ideas for the future, please think of where you would like our association to be in five, 10 and 20 years. Let’s make a clear direction with landmarks and goals to further strengthen the future of this cattle breed and association. A solid long-term plan has the best chance of success, and I plan on giving us the best odds possible. Until we meet again, stay adaptable, sustainable and profit able. BB

Golden Hz Farms Barzona: The breed for busy people These cows take care of themselves! Reminder for those of you who usually market your calves at weaning: You DO NOT have to own the calves as they go through the test; you can sell them to the feedlot at any time – take your money with this high market and still get your test results! You can enter one calf or everything you own; it’s up to you. The more calves we have entered, the lower the entry fee will be for everyone, so let’s get some pens made for this fall and winter in AzTx Feedyard at Hereford, Texas! BB Second, it’s time to start planning for the Barzona Feed Effi ciency Test! Rules and entry forms are posted on the website, at http://barzona.com/assets/files/Feedlot-TestSummary.pdf . Please return page 1 of the form to me as soon as you can so I can start planning pens. Your vaccination paperwork (page 2) and entry fee are required before you drop calves off at the feedyard. Drop off can be anytime ahead of the test itself. If you need any assistance with trucking or have questions, please let me know.
