was dedicated to the late Dr. Burton McDaniel of MC Ranch in Alpharetta, Ga. Beginning in the early 1990s, Burton, along with his wife, Judy, and their four children – Wes, Ali, Anna and Will – made MC Ranch a mainstay in the Santa Gertrudis breed. With their purchase of foundation female Scarlet 24/9, the 1992 National Champion Female, their herd began an impres- sive run of national champions, Santa Gertrudis Breeders International (SGBI) High Point winners and SGBI Breeder of the Year five times. Their success also continued in the junior program, with Wes, Anna and Will all having won Grand Champion Female at the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Show. The children were also very involved in the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Association (NJSGA). Wesley and Will both served as NJSGA presidents, and Wes went on to be SGBI president. Burton served multiple terms as an SGBI Board member. In Addition, Burton, with the help of Mrs. Ann Upchurch, created the NuGen Program. With SGBI’s support, they recreated the Santa Gertrudis breed, beginning with new Shorthorn and Brahman genet- ics. This project was one of Burton’s proudest accomplishments, reaching its pinnacle with the NuGen Foundation Sale in 2015. In April 2018, the Sunday after the Crimson Classic Sale in which Burton sold cattle, Burton suddenly passed. The SGBI Shows and Exhibits Com- mittee is proud to dedicate the 2021 National Show to Burton McDaniel, MC Ranch and the entire McDaniel family. Since the early 1990s, Burton and his family have been great supporters of not only the show side of the breed, but true friends and family to all Santa Gertrudis breeders and exhibitors .
