show itself, with record numbers of cattle and participation. Both judges also commented on the breed’s growth from years past in the right direction of the right kind of cattle. We know the progress our breed has made, both genetically and pheno- typically, but it is sure nice to hear outsiders within the industry acknowledge the progress as well. I walked away from the NJSGS as excited as ever about the future of Santa Gertrudis Breeders International and the Santa Gertrudis breed. We have some extremely bright,

young future leaders who are absolutely devoted to this breed of cattle. We must continue to support and cultivate these young people, and continue to find ways to retain them as adult members and future leaders within this association. We must not leave the future of our breed to chance, as I know these great young minds can continue to lead us in a positive direction for years to come. I hope they know my door is always open to them. I look forward to many more years of watching our youth prosper.
