Seeking Board Candidates SANTA GERTRUDIS BREEDERS INTERNATIONAL (SGBI) will hold the association’s 68th Annual Membership Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, April 11-14, 2019. In addition to the annual business meeting, Board of Director elections will be conduct- ed. Active SGBI members wishing to seek a seat on the board and have their name appear on the ballot are asked to notify Diana Ruiz, SGBI member services specialist, via U.S. mail, e-mail ( diana@santagertrudis.com ) or FAX (361) 592-8572 no later than Jan. 11, 2019. A 300-word bio and picture are required, which will appear in Santa Gertrudis USA prior to the Annual Meeting. legs, tight sheaths and docility in the pursuit of greater performance. Breeding cattle is a balancing act. Good phenotypic indicators combined with performance-validating informa- tion generated by SGBI’s reliable genet- ic evaluation ensures that association members can identify and offer bulls that will perform profitably in the most challenging environmental conditions. For a number of our customers it is a bull’s appearance that attracts them to the sell pen, but it is his calf crop’s performance that determines if they are repeat customers.

That said, I realize it is easy to get caught up in digesting and reviewing data and information, even to the point we can find ourselves chasing specific EPDs or over-emphasizing particular traits.
