2020 National Santa Gertrudis Show Curtis L. Fuchs Dedication
C urtis L. Fuchs grew up on the Fuchs family farm in Burton. He received an associate of arts degree from Blinn College. He then attended Texas A&M Universi- ty where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education before earning a master’s degree in agriculture education from Prairie View A&M University. Curtis married Kathleen (Steinbach) in 1971 and they lived in Cypress, Texas, where they had two daughters, Christy and Courtney. His teaching career includes 11 years as the agricultural science teacher and FFA advisor at Cy- Fair High School, followed by teaching ag science at Bren- ham High School for 32 years before retiring in 2013. Curtis became involved in the Santa Gertrudis breed and organizations when he became a Brenham FFA advisor. His full-time involvement commenced when his daughters began showing Santa Gertrudis heifers. Before having his own herd, the girls purchased heifers from the Mayfair and Nine Bar ranches. The girls exhibited heifers from 1984 to 1995 and enjoyed developing relationships, gaining leadership in the organization and exhibiting many champion heifers. The girls showed five national champions at the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Show and received four donated heifers one year in addition to other heifers donated by generous ranches. All of these cattle built the CF herd. Curtis has been a long-time member of the Mid-Coast Santa Gertrudis Association and Santa Gertrudis Breeders International. He has served as the Youth Activities director for the Mid-Coast affiliate and enjoys helping youth in this capacity. Curtis and Kathy own and operate CF Cattle Com-
pany and have enjoyed raising quality Santa Gertrudis. It has become a larger family affair as their daughters, sons-in- laws, Wes and David, and grandchildren – Parker, Madison, Logan and Dawson – help with the operation. Curtis enjoys seeing his grandchildren involved in the breed. CF cattle have continued to excel at major livestock shows in the hands of Curtis’ grandchildren. Through the family’s involve- ment in SGBI and affiliate activities, it is evident that they have a passion for Santa Gertrudis cattle and the associated organizations. Curtis and his family hope to continue produc- ing quality CF prospects and continue their involvement with these organizations. The Santa Gertrudis breed and SGBI Shows & Exhibits Committee are proud to dedicate the 2020 National Santa Gertrudis Show to Curtis Fuchs. Congratulations on this well- deserved honor.

our expected progeny differences allows us earlier accuracy on our young bulls and better, more valu- able information when it comes to breeding decisions. Santa Gertrudis is currently in a great position, and that is due to years of great leadership. I must thank John Ford not only for his great stewardship of our asso- ciation, but also his willingness to pass on a decade’s worth of experi- ence and knowledge before he steps down. As important, we are in a great position because of our tremendous cattle and the people who have stood the test of time supporting and projecting these cattle in a positive direction. It’s a great time to be Santa Ger- trudis, and I am thrilled to be along for the ride!
