However, the survey plainly indicates that, regardless of operation type or size, profitability is important to all SGBI members. The 2011 survey helps us better understand SGBI membership, but I don’t think a dictionary definition of an association or responses from a survey provide the defining answer to the question. So, who is SGBI? As stated above, it is a cattle breed association comprised of like-mind- ed people working to expand the breed’s industry footprint. It is large operations and small cow herds. It is producers with an eye on seedstock

production, as well as operations that utilize Santa Gertrudis genetics in crossbreed- ing programs and show programs. It is individuals who enjoy sorting through data- sets and those who get excited about the look of a show ring champion. It is people devoted to the breed’s junior program and those focused on developing a commer- cial bull market. Santa Gertrudis Breeders International is a diverse group of cattlemen and cattlewomen who are passionate about DATA DRIVEN and PROFIT PROVEN Santa Gertrudis cattle.
