CORPORRON ACRES CONTINUED FROM PAGE 18

Utilizing Brad Wright, genetic con- sultant with Ranch Hand Analytics, and Tommy Brandenberger, who consults on strategic planning, forage produc- tion, breeding programs, animal health and nutrition, the Corporron family is continuously improving their opera- tions and have worked hard to produce high-quality animals with an emphasis on health, genetics and phenotype. They also continue their education in the industry, attending various events annually such as the Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course where they also participate as trade show exhibitors. The family markets their seedstock cattle both private treaty and at con- signment sales such as the Bluebon- net Classic Sale held each spring in Hallettsville, Texas (co-founded by Jim in 2002), the Mid-Coast Santa Ger- trudis Sale and the Tri-Star Bull Sale in conjunction with the Commercial Female Sale

Year. Their success continued as they went on to earn the title of overall grand champion in 2015 and 2016 at one of the country’s largest cattle shows. Both years they secured the title at the San Antonio All Breed Bull and Com- mercial Heifer Sale with pens of STAR 5 females. Involvement in the breed was, and still is, important to Jim. Upon retiring, he began devoting more of his time to the association. He regularly attended annual meetings and industry-wide events while serving on various com- mittees. In 2002, he was elected to the SGBI Board of Directors where his vast business experience and expertise was quickly put to use. Not long after, in 2003, he was elected association president for a two-year term. In recent years, Rodney and Barbara have taken over attending the annual meetings as representatives of the family operation. “I always look forward to the SGBI annual meetings as they are full of educational resources, networking and simply a fun way to take a break from the day-to-day. It’s like a family reunion every time,” Barbara says. Both Corporron and Pinnacle greatly value their SGBI membership and note their appreciation of the association’s support and promotion of both straight- bred and commercial Santa Gertrudis cattle. When asked to expand on why they value their membership, Barbara says, “The resources SGBI provides

The Corporron family would be remiss to not mention Jessie Mendel, manager, and Primo Manzano, herdsman. Mendel and Manzano have been with Corporron Acres for 20-plus years, and both are as much a part of the family as anyone else. Both Corporron Acres and Pinnacle Cattle Company continue to utilize top genetics along with ultrasound, DNA testing, extensive expected progeny difference analysis, artificial insemina- tion and embryo transfer. Their herd includes genetics from Briggs Ranches, Wendt Ranches, Harris Farms, Red Doc Farm and Grandview Farms, just to name a few, and represent more than 100 years combined breeding of top Santa Gertrudis cattle.

– a two-day event held each fall. Their breed- ing program’s success is evident by their vari- ous accolades. In 2011, the Mid-Coast Santa Gertrudis Association named Corporron Acres its 2011 Breeder of the Jim Corporron and family winning the grand champion title at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo with their pen of STAR 5 females.
