My friend went on to tell me that the seller was proud and didn’t regret selling the animal, but he certainly left some meat on the bone when he simply gate cut the cattle based on appearance. Had he taken time to collect DNA samples, he would have had more information available to him and might have kept that particular pair himself. In today’s indus- try, information is key, so make sure you use all available tools as they might bring a hefty premium in the long run. SALE AVERAGES Heifers growing process and the bull continued to impress. All scan data and data collected supported the claim that this young bull could have a positive impact for the breed. It wasn’t long until sale season came around and eyes from across the country were on this young bull. When it was all said and done, the calf commanded more than $50,000, more than paying for the entire group. He went on to a major bull stud where his value is sure to continue to increase, and he will influence the breed.

in my life as I have become part of a team working toward bettering the breed. There is no better way to learn about our cattle than to surround yourself with people with the same goal. It has also offered leadership opportunities that I have happily taken advantage of. Knowing how much the association has done for me encourages me to reach out to other breeders and invite them to join. A great way to gain new members is to simply engage with fellow breeders at events and share your appreciation for being a member. That said, be sure to stay up-to-date on upcoming events listed on the association website, www.santagertrudis.com . Also, don’t miss the upcoming sales later this month. They will be great opportunities for meeting new breeders and, of course, purchasing quality cattle. I hope you are all healthy and I hope to see you soon!
