breed. The association’s support of research projects provides our members the opportunity to get real-world data on our product, often as it compares to other breeds. This allows for powerful data, which is useful for educating commercial clients. It also sets a benchmark as to how the cattle currently perform while also identifying potential areas of growth. This association is no stranger to the value of a well-run and organized junior program. We know we must cultivate our youth and turn them into breeders of tomorrow if we want to maintain and grow this breed. SGBI pro- vides an incredible member-run platform to bring information and opportuni- ties to junior members. Beyond juniors, the association provides an excellent opportunity for professional development among all members. Adult mem- bers have the opportunity to take on leadership roles, gain additional skills or training, and potentially be rewarded for superior efforts or achievements within the association. In a time where the world is at your fingertips, it’s maybe more important than ever to be associated with your fellow breeders. Growing our network and having a unified voice allows us to remain at the industry table with strength in our message. Cultivating idea sharing and collaborating with one another makes sure we study all angles, move this breed in a positive direc- tion and stay at the forefront of new and potential areas of growth. Quality membership is the key behind any good association and that certainly leaves SGBI in a very valuable and powerful place.
