ACCURACY VALUES – Accuracy can be defined as the rela tionship between an animal’s estimated EPD and the ani mal’s “true” EPD. As the accuracy value approaches 1.0, the reported EPD is more likely to represent the animal’s true genetic merit. SGBI also offers three selection indexes for cattlemen. Indexes are multi-trait selection tools designed to assist producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. Indexes provide an estimate of how each sire’s future progeny are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database, if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.
