Alabama Connection Sale Blountsville, Alabama Saturday, Oct. 5

Briscoe Western Art Museum San Antonio, Texas Sunday, Oct. 13

This fall marks the 31st annual Alabama Connection Sale. Grandview Farms, Hamilton, Ala.; Tinney Farms, Hanceville, Ala.; Grey Oaks Farm, Russellville, Ala.; and Quail Valley Farms, Oneonta, Ala., are excited to welcome Santa Gertrudis World Congress 2019 attendees. In addition to marking more than three decades since the start of this impressive sale, this year’s sale is also iconic because it is the Santa Gertrudis breed’s first 100-percent DNA-genotyped sale. The operations have worked diligently to provide buyers with the most data possible, including all EPDs, scan data and performance records for bull consignments. Along with 80 registered females and 50 data-proven bulls, the Connection group will also offer 50 Santa Gertrudis-influenced crossbred females. Tinney Farms and Grandview Farms are two of the proud founding members of this sale, which started in 1988; Quail Valley Farms is new to the Connection group this year. From its inception, the sale has become one of the premier Santa Gertrudis sales in the United States by offering their best and standing behind their product. Each year, some of the breed’s highest selling lots are sold here, along with many national show winners. State Fair of Texas Dallas, Texas Friday, Oct. 11 The countdown is on to the 2019 State Fair of Texas, Sept. 27-Oct. 20. At 24 consecutive days, the State Fair of Texas is the longest-running fair in the United States, as well as one of the largest. Since its establishment in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has promoted Texas agriculture, education and community involvement. Agriculture serves not only as a pillar of this organization but as a fundamental feature of the Lone Star State and its history. The State Fair of Texas offers a variety of interactive exhibits focusing on agriculture and livestock, as well as engaging demonstrations. The fair also exposes visitors to emerging technologies and production practices that are used by U.S. cattle producers and U.S. Santa Gertrudis breeders. The Santa Gertrudis show, hosted at the fair, is the breed’s National Show and also its largest, boasting nearly 150 head of Santa Gertrudis and Santa Gertrudis-influenced cattle each year. The Santa Gertrudis show is an excellent opportunity for breeders to showcase the genetic improvements made by the Data Driven, Profit Proven breed.

Through the preservation of the art, history and culture of the American West, the Briscoe Western Art Museum inspires and educates the public with engaging exhibitions, educational programs and public events reflective of the region’s rich traditions and shared heritage. The museum showcases a collection of paintings, sculptures and Native American artifacts, as well as stagecoaches, saddles and a collection of more than 55 pairs of spurs dating as far back as 1790. The museum’s permanent gallery includes three levels, where visionary artists and everyday people tell the story of the West. The NewWorks Gallery features a rotating display of the museum’s newest acquisitions. Briscoe Museum’s McNutt Sculpture Garden is a lush, public, outdoor space that features a beautiful courtyard surrounded by bronze sculptures depicting iconic figures of the American West; the impressive works are created by some of the country’s leading Western artists. Opened to the public less than a decade ago, the museum has an interesting mix of modern and historic architecture that guests of all ages are sure to enjoy. NuGen Sale at Wendt Ranches Bay City, Texas Saturday, Oct. 19 Wendt Ranches is proud to host the 2019 NuGen Foundation Sale with NuGen partners MC Ranch and Goodin Farms. Each of the operations share similar performance-based philosophies that ensure the sale will offer high-quality cattle. In February 1995, the SGBI Board of Directors approved a “NuGen Project” proposal presented by the chairman of breed standards to create a new Santa Gertrudis strain, or gene pool, by reconstructing the original 3/8 Brahman x 5/8 Shorthorn, which is recognized as a purebred Santa Gertrudis. As the final step of the NuGen project, every NuGen animal was mated to a purebred Santa Gertrudis to ensure all genetics trace back to the breed’s foundation herd sire, Monkey. NuGen genetics were made available to the public for the first time at the inaugural sale hosted by MC Ranch in April 2015. Since then, NuGen genetics have been integrated into herds across the United States and exported internationally. The 2019 sale combines the annual Wendt Elite Sale in conjunction with the NuGen Sale and includes 43 NuGen females and three NuGen bulls fromWendt Ranches, MC Ranch and Goodin Farms.
