PRESIDENT ’S COLUMN  CRAIG WALKER, DVM W elcome to the third edition of the American Aberdeen Association ® (AAA) Membership Directory. Between the covers you will find the personal contact information for every active member. Keep this directory nearby and reach out to your fellow American Aberdeen breeders.

We are ready for post-COVID activities to resume in full force and are looking forward to some sense of normalcy. We will once again be returning to the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo., Jan. 11-17, 2022, for our National Show

and Sale. We are also excited to add two new shows after our lineup – the Great Northern Livestock Exposition in Cheyenne, Wyo., Nov. 21-25, 2021; and the Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City, Okla., Jan. 7-11, 2022. We expect these shows will be well attended and great exposure for the breed. We are pleased to announce the American Aberdeen Excellence Program (AAEP) that will serve as an umbrella to several merit and performance pro grams. Two lead-off programs under AAEP are the Dam of Merit and Sire of Merit. Check out www.AmericanAberdeen.com for criteria and eligibility. COVID has hampered many projects over the course of the year, not only within the AAA office, but also across the world. We appreciate the office team rolling with the punches. We were in high hopes the new-and-improved registra tion system would be up and running this year, but, unfortunately, we hit some major delays due to DNA samples being submitted directly to Neogen. In the near future, be watching for changes in the DNA submission process. We will be making a transition and DNA samples will be sent directly to the Parker, Colo., office. As we press forward and recover from this past year, I wish everyone a great and prosperous year. I look forward to seeing you in Denver. TL JUNIOR CORRAL  JAYSIE SCHOENFIELD, AJAA PRESIDENT H ello everyone! As of this writing, we are in full swing prepping for junior nationals. I first want to thank all of the producers, junior board members, advisors and parents for your belief in the junior program! Without y’all, we wouldn’t be able to host events like junior nationals and give our juniors these special opportunities. The investment that is being made in the next genera am a believer that we should prepare them to build a prosperous future. Each generation plays a role in the next. We can make the choice to build it or allow it to crumble under pressure. Let’s encourage each other to do better and begin to lay the groundwork for the years to come. Have the future in the back of your mind and allow it to help each of us make decisions in life. Without the next generation, we have no hope. Without hope, we have nothing. There truly is no better way to grow up and raise kids than in the barn. As cheesy as it may sound, there is a lot of truth behind it. The life lessons that are learned through the livestock industry are lessons that will stick with you forev er. There are times it might feel like a losing battle, but as you begin to grow up and enter the “adulting” world, the work ethic and character that is built during years showing or raising cattle will benefit each person for years to come. As we move forward, let’s keep our perspective on why we do what we do. It’s for the love of the agriculture industry and wanting to give the next generation the very best shot at succeeding. On behalf of myself and the American Junior Aberdeen Association Board of Directors, we are beyond excited to see every one in Oklahoma! TL tion is helping ensure our place in the future as a breed and in the agriculture industry as a whole. The future is in the youth. I
