President’s Message

THE 2025-2026 BBAA EXECUTIVE BOARD President: Matthew Heinz Vice President: Nash Stansfield Executive Secretary: Alecia Heinz Eastern Director: Raymond Boykin Central Director: Nolan Carmichael Western Director: Garey Fischer At-Large Director: Clay Fitzgerald

Raising Quality Barzona Cattle for 46 Years. Bulls & Females Available 2-Year-Old Bulls Available Now F & F Cattle Company combine has been switched over to open corn fields for picking in the ear. We are hopeful and optimistic that this year’s crop is going to be better than the last. Here at Golden Hz Farms we use our own feedstuffs as a base to feed all of our livestock, in cluding our feedlot calves. The correlation from the field to the quality product on the plate is of great interest to us as well as other producer BBAA members. By Matthew Heinz, Golden Hz Farms, BBAA President T he Barzona Breeders Association of America (BBAA) 2025 Annual Meeting is in the books. We’d like to thank everyone for their participation in and attendance to the event. We are changing gears here at Golden Hz Farms; bulls are coming out of the pastures and preparations for fall weaning are beginning. I will admit the list is long but we are looking forward to getting to see all of the calves together and getting a good eye on the entire 2025 calf crop! Other preparations for fall are commencing as well. The

I look forward to working with each one of those leaders to keep growing this association. Please feel free to reach out to anyone on the board if you have comments or concerns. God bless! See you soon. Adaptable – Sustainable – Profitable. BB Over the last several years, BBAA has partnered with Here ford Feedlot in Texas to run feedlot tests on our Barzona stock. We have received valuable data from those feedlot tests, which we have compared to data our farm has already collected. What is of great interest is that our cattle are performing just as well in a commercial feedlot as they do here at home. Several other data points we are seeing that exceed the other breeds include ribeye size, feed conversion and overall yield grade to name a few. This means a higher quality, premi um product for the consumer at the restaurant and at home. The BBAA is continuing its feedlot tests to further collect data. We will have pen space available this year if you would like to contribute Barzona or Barzona-cross cattle to the tests. Our hope is to continue to compile data to prove Barzona cattle are adaptable, sustainable and profitable, which all cattle produc ers want in this current market. If you have any interest in the cattle feedlot tests, please reach out to the BBAA executive secretary for more information. Last, I would like to thank the BBAA Executive Board for their hard work during this last year. We had a few meetings and accomplished a lot in continuing to move the association forward. Thank you to last year’s board.

I can’t even begin to tell you how busy we are with fall, but I’m sure it’s the same everywhere. The Barzona Breeders Asso ciation of America (BBAA) 2025 Annual Meeting was very successful, and next year the BBAA Western Region will be hosting. We have seen a small increase in both memberships and registrations in 2025, and our goal is to keep those numbers going up. Paperwork for the feed efficiency trials is the same. Feel free to use the forms on the website at barzona.org/mem bers#3badbe3a-4e1a-48c0-8399-c4148ac71c03 , even if I don’t have those updated to say 2026 yet. Remember, vaccinations need to be done well before delivery of calves to the feedyard. There is usually pen space available in January and March. Entry of animals into the registry can be easily done once you have weaned. You can enter everything in as “performance only” for free and then update those you wish to keep and reg ister at a later time. This is a much better option than waiting years and trying to play catch up. If you have photos of your cattle, ranch, etc., please share them with me by emailing them to barzonabreeders@gmail. com . I always need new material to use on the website to keep it changing. Cattle prices are at record highs for everything across the board. I do have folks looking for feeders, heifers, bred females and bulls. I can put you in touch with those folks if you have cattle to sell or want to purchase. Communication is the key! Until next time, stay adaptable, sustainable and profitable! BB By Alecia Heinz, Golden Hz Farms, BBAA Secretary
